CHAPTER 9 — THE METHOD FOR WORKING THROUGH EACH TOPIC (As Tim Gunn Would Say, “Make it work!”)
“You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.” —Alan Alda
THE METHOD
One of the benefits of buying an incredibly well-written book like this by two amazingly witty and good-looking people like us is that you get the advantage of our years of experience. In writing this book we really dissected the methods that we have used to approach the various subjects on our agenda. (Plus we’ve tried some things over the years that were “el stinko” and they are, of course, not included in this book!)
What we found is that no matter the topic, we really addressed every subject in basically the same way. And at the heart of it, the objective was always the same—to find our common goals and then decide how to reach them.
The method used with each topic was to take a look inside of ourselves and determine how we felt about that subject. Then we would share that information with each other and find where the common ground was. Once the common goal was identified, we determined the proactive steps required to get to the goal. (Simple Simon, no?)
So the steps (or THE METHOD as we like to call it) in approaching each topic setting go something like this:
1. Do your preparation.
2. Take some individual time to do self-analysis.
3. Share with your partner (and listen).
4. Find your commonalities and differences.
5. Identify your big dreams.
6. Break your dreams down into measurable action items.
7. Rinse and repeat as needed.
In a nutshell, our super-secret method is simply about reflecting, sharing, and then putting some plans together for actually making progress toward common goals.
Simple? Maybe.
Powerful? Absolutely.
(This is THE METHOD you use to work through each of the sections in the workbook.)
